Dog Days of Summer

A poem about transitions, old and new alike

Through the rites of Olden Ways,
Beneath the sun of all dog days,
In Sirius's watchful gaze,
Fall beckons as summer wanes.

The air grows crisp as leaves take flight,
Airborne sparks of hue and light
In the wake of dusk conspire.
Who shall set the great bonfire?

Amidst the circle, voices rise;
A glimpse of ancient paradise
They offer through their secret chants,
As the summer heat relents.

Embers crackle, shadows dance,
Heads held high and hearts fierce:
The Oak King yields to Holly's might,
And so unfolds the sacred night.

A circle's end, a truth unchained,
For what we've lost and what remained
Was longing for a different lie.
The Olden Ways a new world tie.
